Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 June 2026
This policy explains what personal data this website ("the Site") collects, why, and what your rights are. The data controller is [Marc Allington / your legal entity name]. If you have any questions or want to exercise your rights, contact [privacy contact email — e.g. marc@solvewithsoftware.com].
Summary
We collect as little as possible. The main things to know:
- Analytics are anonymous and only run if you accept cookies.
- The "Chat with Marc" assistant stores your conversation and sends your messages to a third-party AI provider.
- We never sell your data.
1. Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies via our cookie banner, we record basic page-view events: the page URL, the referring page, and an anonymous visitor identifier created by hashing your IP address and browser user-agent (we do not store your raw IP for analytics). This helps us understand which content is useful. If you choose "Necessary only," no analytics are collected.
Lawful basis: consent (which you can withdraw at any time by clearing the cookie or rejecting cookies).
2. "Chat with Marc" AI assistant
When you use the chat assistant:
- What we collect: the content of the messages you send and the assistant's replies, your IP address, and your browser user-agent.
- Why: to operate the assistant, to review conversations so we can improve it and respond to enquiries, and to protect the Site from abuse (rate-limiting and bot protection via Cloudflare Turnstile).
- Third-party AI processing: your messages are sent to Anthropic (our AI provider) to generate responses. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into the chat.
- Storage: conversations are stored in our database (hosted by Supabase) and are visible to the Site owner.
- Retention: chat data is kept for [retention period — e.g. 12 months], after which it is deleted.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the assistant).
3. Meeting / contact requests
If you submit a meeting request through the chat, we collect your name, email address, preferred times, and any topic you provide. This information is emailed to Marc (via Resend) so he can reply. It is used only to arrange and respond to your request.
Lawful basis: taking steps at your request prior to / in order to communicate with you.
4. Account registration
If you create an account, we collect your name, username, email address, password (stored securely / hashed), and any optional bio or profile picture you provide. Authentication and account data are managed by Supabase. You agree to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy at sign-up.
Lawful basis: performance of a contract (providing your account).
5. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar local storage. Strictly necessary items keep the Site working; analytics cookies are optional and only set with your consent. See our Cookie Policy for details and to change your choice.
6. Who we share data with
We use the following processors, who handle data on our behalf:
- Anthropic — AI processing of chat messages
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting
- Resend — sending emails (meeting requests, account emails)
- Cloudflare — bot protection (Turnstile)
- Vercel — website hosting
We do not sell your personal data. Some providers may process data outside the UK/EU; where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.
7. Your rights
Under UK/EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, contact us at [privacy contact email]. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the latest version.
