Three former OpenAI safety staff, Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak and Mikita Balesni, wrote to the board saying the company risks losing the ability to observe how advanced models reason. They argue the industry does not yet know how to safely deploy models it cannot monitor. OpenAI said it strongly agreed with the recommendations and that the dismissals, which it linked to sharing confidential information, were unrelated to safety advocacy. The researchers dispute that characterisation.
